Biography

I am currently assistant professor in the group of prof. Renato S. Gonnelli at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of Politecnico di Torino. My research work is grounded in condensed matter physics, studying the electronic properties of advanced materials at low temperatures under the application of extremely high electric fields. My current focus is the control of exotic quantum phases – such as superconductivity and charge-density waves – by means of electrostatic and electrochemical charge doping.

(Area 0002 - Physical sciences)

Research topics

  • Characterization of the low-frequency electrical properties of materials and composites as a function of temperature and magnetic field.
  • Use of point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy to study the structure of the superconducting gap in unconventional superconductors.
  • Use of the ionic gating technique to induce ultrahigh electric fields at the surface of a material and control its electronic ground state, either directly via electrostatic doping or indirectly via field-driven ion intercalation. The chief focus is to induce and/or tune superconductivity and other quantum phases in two-dimensional and other advanced materials.
  • Use of various scanning probe microscopy techniques (including atomic force microscopy, Kelvin-probe force microscopy, scanning thermal microscopy, conductive-AFM, and nano-infrared microscopy) to study the physical properties of materials, composites and devices at the micro- and nano-scale.
