Nuclear and High Energy Experimental Physics

Specific mission

The main research is focused to the experimental verification of the existence, at very high energy as foreseen by QCD, of the quark gluon plasma during the expansion and cooling phase, with the following production of hadronic matter, strongly interacting, that constitute the matter of our universe. High energies are achieved with heavy ion collisions at ultra-relativistic energies. To the main research is added a specific study about the light hypernuclei formation and about the strong interaction of hadrons.

Main research topics

  • Study of the Quark-Gluon plasma
  • Study of light hypernuclei and strong interaction of hadrons
  • Study and development of new algorithms for fast and efficient tracking and vertexing of particles in ALICE inner detector
  • Study and development of new very thin and low electrical power consumption CMOS silicon pixel detectors for the ALICE inner detector
