Biography

As Full Professor Daniele Ugues currently teaches lessons of courses on the following topics: Metallurgical Plants, Strategical Development of Materials, Materials and Design and Materials for Advanced Manufacturing I. All these courses are dedicated to the Master of Science students of Materials Science Engineering for Industry 4.0 at Politecnico di Torino. Since 2015 he also gives lessons for a PhD course named “Wear of Materials” at Politecnico di Torino. The research activities of Daniele Ugues lie within the sectors of the manufacturing and heat treating of complex metallic components and of the surface engineering. As for the manufacturing of complex components, the main topics addressed are the study of microstructural features and mechanical properties provided to metallic components by the synergic effects of chemical composition, forming actions and thermal loads according to the specific manufacturing route. Recently, the fields of advanced powder manufacturing technologies of metallic materials (Additive Manufacturing and Net Shape Hot Isostatic Pressing) have become the core of his research activity. Daniele Ugues currently leads the High Temperature Materials and Hot Isostatic Pressing Research Team within the interdepartmental center for Integrated Additive Manufacturing (IAM@PoliTO). As far as the studied materials are concerned, load bearing and tool steels and Ni-superalloys are the grades of major interest. As far as the technologies involved traditional and advanced manufacturing of metallic materials, Laser Powder Bed Melting, Electron Beam Melting and Hot Isostatic Pressing quenching are those of major interest.
