Research topics

  • G Massaglia has a well-established experience in the design and fabrication of nanostructured materials, focused their research activity of electrospun nanofibers, designed, optimized and applied in several fields, from the energy devices to biomedical sensors. Starting from 2013, when she won a Research grant at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) of Politecnico of Turin, she has been working on energy conversion in electrochemical systems for production and storage of renewable energy, especially investigating novel nanostructured catalysts and electrodes. Focus was given to Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) as the reference tool to investigate in details reaction kinetics and transport processes. Since 2014, G. Massaglia extended her scientific interest to electrochemical sensors for application in environmental monitoring and in life science. She started investigating the potential of bioelectrochemical systems, as microbial fuel cells, to be used as sustainable energetic-autonomous early-stage detection tools. Then she broadened her studies integrating nanostructured materials, mainly nanofibers. Design and optimisation of hierarchical, high-porosity catalytic LIG (Laser Induced Graphene) layers from synthetic polymer nanofibres for applications in energy devices
