Research topics My main research topic is the study of supergravity theories in different dimensions and their solutions (voids of the theory, black holes, black branes, wormholes, etc.). Particular attention is paid to solutions with asymptotic geometry of anti-de Sitter type, in light of their relevance in studying the gravity / conformal gauge theories holographic duality. In this context, properties of non-gravitational systems, even of condensed matter (eg graphene, etc.), in a strong coupling regime, can be deduced from gravity solutions. 
 A more fundamental problem, to be tackled before the above analysis, is the construction of supergravity theories with particular vacuum structures. This is accomplished through the gauging procedure. I have contributed to the introduction and development of a formulation of this procedure, now widely used in our community, based on the use of the so-called embedding tensor. This technique allows a systematic study of extended supergravities and their vacua. Another problem of particular interest is the interpretation of supergravity vacua, and in general of supergravity solutions, as solutions of superstring theory (a possible ultraviolet quantum description of gravity). This is not always possible. An important theoretical tool to this end is the Exceptional Field Theory and its application to interpret supergravity solutions within the superstring theory (or M-theory) is one of my present research interests.
