Biography

Chemical Engineer in 1995 Mauro Banchero obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1998. He is now an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Politecnico di Torino and is part of the SMAC (Supercritical Fluids and Materials Chemistry) research group. His research experience has been mainly developed through laboratory training, both in the project and set-up of experimental apparatuses and test conduction. He is experienced both in the reactor design and in the set-up of supercritical processes. From a theorethic point of view he has knowledge of kinetics and mass transfer phenomena in chemical reactor modelling. He has also examined many thermodynamic aspects of solute solubilities in supercritical solvents. His present research interests include phase equilibria experimental investigation and thermodynamic modeling, supercritical fluid extraction and impregnation for food or medical applications, aerogel synthesis and biodiesel production from renewable sources. He has partecipated to national and international research projects involving both industrial and academic partners on subjects such as supercritical fluid dyeing, unsteady state operation of trickle bed reactors, process intensification of microstructured reactors or the development of innovative technologies in the food industry. He is referee for many international journals and has acted as one of the Academic Editors of the Special Issue “Applications of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide” for the international journal Molecules. He is coauthor of more than 40 research papers published on international journals. In the years 2014 and 2021 he was awarded the Centenary Medal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists for the articles "Supercritical fluid dyeing of synthetic and natural textiles - a review" and "Recent advances in supercritical fluid dyeing", which had been published in the international journal “Coloration Technology” in 2013 and 2020, respectively.
