Seminar "Organic transducers for cell opto-stimulation"
DiSAT is glad to invite you to the seminar "Organic transducers for cell opto-stimulation" scheduled on the 13th of January in Aula Perucca at 11.30 a.m. .
The seminar will be held by prof. Guglielmo Lanzani from Politecnico di Milano.
Photopharmacology traditionally refer to the use of photoswitchable drugs that once delivered into the organism can be switched On and Off by light, to modulate a therapeutic action. Recently, in collaboration with the group of Chiara Bertarelli in POLIMI, we developed a family of amphiphilic azobenzenes that preferentially dwells in the cell membrane. These compounds absorb light and transform it into a bio electric stimulation that in turn modulates the cell physiology. We studied their photophysics, the bio stimulation mechanism, and in collaboration with the group of Fabio Benefenati we explored their application in neurons in vitro and in vivo and recently as therapy for photoreceptor degeneration in the retina.
We hope to see many of you there.
