FUNDINT - Physics of Fundamental Interactions

Mission

The scientific goal of the research group is the experimental and theoretical study of the main aspect of the fundamental interaction participating in the main experiments of the sector (construction and data analysis) and developing theories and phenomenological models in collaboration with the most important italian and International institutions (Universities and Research centers). The goal is pursued by three different research sections involved in the study of the strangeness production and the beta decay in nuclear matter, in the development of a quantum theory for the unification of the gravity with the other fundamental interactions and in the theoretical test of the Lattice QCD for the study of the Quark Gluon Plasma produced in heavy ion collisions at ultra-relativistic energies

Main targets

  • Design and prototyping of special targets with a cooling system under intense ion beams
  • Preliminary measurement of DCE reactions with the same initial and final states of the double beta neutrinoless decay and related data analysis;
  • Theoretical and phenomenological study of strangeness production and hadron-quark phase transition in compact stars;
  • Microscopic interpretation in the framework of superstring theory of recently discovered new dyonic gauged supergravity models and possible applications to cosmology;
  • Hidden symmetry structure of eleven and ten-dimensional supergravity and their unified description;
  • Continue the analysis of the data collected up to now and in the next three years in ALICE (LHC, CERN) at the highest energy reachable by the LHC and E05, E13, E19 (J-PARC, JAPAN) experiments
  • To participate actively to the construction of a new Inner tracking System for the ALICE apparatus that will be installed during the Long Shutdown LS2 of LHC.
  • Continue the tests of silicon pixel detectors CMOS “ALPIDE” as regard their operation, reliability, efficiency, speed transmission and low electrical power consumption for both single chips and for assembled chips over the stave
